Get your transactions out of a statement PDF

Banks hand out statements as PDFs, but bookkeeping, budgeting and tax returns need rows you can sort and add up. Drop in one statement or a year of them and get every transaction as a clean row — date, description, money out, money in and balance — in Excel, a plain CSV, or the CSV layout QuickBooks Online, Xero or YNAB imports. Each row is checked against the statement’s running balance, and the opening balance plus every transaction against the closing balance, so a misread row is flagged instead of slipping through. It works with US and UK statements and credit card statements, reads scanned statements with OCR, and because it runs in your browser, your bank details never leave your device.

Good to know

Yes. Nothing is uploaded: the statement is read by your browser on your device, and the spreadsheet is made there too. Your account numbers and transactions are never sent anywhere.

Each row’s balance is checked against the previous balance plus that row’s amount, and the opening balance plus all the rows against the closing balance. If everything adds up you’ll see a tick; rows that don’t are marked “check this row” in the spreadsheet and counted on screen.

Statements laid out as rows of date, description and amounts — the layout most US and UK banks and card issuers use, including ones that print each day’s date only once or split money out and money in into separate columns. It reads the layout rather than matching a list of banks. If a statement isn’t read well, PDF to Excel will still get its tables out.

Yes. Choose Accounting app and pick yours: you get a CSV in the columns that app’s bank import expects, with money out as negative amounts (or in the Outflow column for YNAB). QuickBooks Online files are split every 500 rows, the most every QuickBooks plan takes in one upload. QuickBooks Desktop doesn’t import CSV bank files; use the Excel file there instead.

Money out is negative and money in positive, from your side of the account. On a credit card statement, purchases are money out and payments to the card are money in.

Yes — pages without text are read with OCR first. Clear scans work best; check the figures, which the balance check helps with.

Yes. Add up to 12 statements and their transactions come out in one file, in order, with a column saying which statement each row came from.
