From a pile of receipts to an expense report

Expense claims, freelance bookkeeping and tax records all start with a pile of paper receipts. Take a photo of each one — or add e-receipt PDFs — and Receipt Scanner crops and cleans them like a scanner would, then reads the merchant, date, total and tax with OCR. Check each one in a short list (fix anything it misread, pick a category), and get one PDF with a summary page and every receipt, plus a spreadsheet with a row per receipt and the totals. It all happens on your phone or computer; your receipts are never uploaded.

  • Your files stay on your device

Receipt Scanner runs in your browser, so nothing is uploaded — not the file, not even its name.

  • Free, with no sign-up

No account, no watermark on your files and no daily limit for normal use.

  • Up to 50 files at once

Each file can be up to 100 MB. Large or scanned files simply take a little longer.

  • Works on every device

Windows, Mac, Linux, iPhone, iPad and Android, in any modern browser. Nothing to install.

Good to know

It reads clear, flat receipts well, but faded thermal paper, creases and handwriting trip any OCR up. That’s why every receipt is shown for you to check before the report is made — the report uses what you confirm.

A PDF that opens on a summary — date, merchant, category, tax and total for every receipt, with the grand total — followed by each receipt on its own page, and an Excel spreadsheet with the same rows, ready for an expense claim or your accountant.

Yes. Each page of a PDF counts as one receipt; when the PDF has its own text, that’s read directly, with no OCR needed.

Each receipt keeps its own currency ($, £ or €), and totals are given per currency rather than added together.

Lay each receipt flat on a darker surface, in even light, and fill most of the frame. Long receipts can be photographed in one go.

Each file can be up to 100 MB, and you can add up to 50 files at once. Large or scanned files simply take a little longer.
