Bates-number a document production

Bates numbers give every page in a production its own reference, so anyone can cite “ABC000417” and land on the same page. Add your PDFs in production order, type a prefix — a party or matter code like SMITH or ABC — and pick 6, 7 or 8 digits. Every page gets the next number in the bottom-right corner (or wherever you choose), running on from the last page of one file to the first page of the next, and each file is renamed with its first and last number. The documents never leave your device.

  • Your files stay on your device

Bates numbering runs in your browser, so nothing is uploaded — not the file, not even its name.

  • Free, with no sign-up

No account, no watermark on your files and no daily limit for normal use.

  • Up to 20 files at once

Each file can be up to 100 MB. Large or scanned files simply take a little longer.

  • Works on every device

Windows, Mac, Linux, iPhone, iPad and Android, in any modern browser. Nothing to install.
